The Coat Drive Experience
Here are a couple of quotes about what volunteers thought about the coat drive.
"When I worked at the coat drive, I felt like I was actually doing something for the
community around my Church. If I had simply sent in a couple of coats for another
coat drive, I would have easily forgotten all about it. When I worked at the drive, I
could really tell the coats were going to good homes. The night before the big
drive, we got all the coats down from the attic and onto the racks. I helped
organize and sort the coats that were coming down the stairs and that were in
boxes. On the actual day, I got there an hour early, but even that early, there was
already a line waiting to get winter coats. What I did to contribute was to watch and
entertain the kids whose parents were standing in line to get their coats. Later, I
held signs to help with the directing of traffic. Overall, I felt that I was really doing
something that would help the community."

"Working at the Coat Drive was such a wonderful experience for me. The night
before the distribution, I brought coats into the Hall to get ready for the distribution.
I really had a great time meeting new people, having fun, and helping out those in
need. The next day, I did a number of things. For a while in the morning, I watched
some of the children while their parents looked for coats. It was a lot of fun. Soon
after, I went down the street and held up signs for the coat drive. Many people
asked me for directions, and a couple of people even praised me for helping out. I
felt a little bit bad for some of the people going to get coats, but then I realized that
I was doing something about it and that felt amazing. Filling up the Hall with coats
the night before, and then seeing the Hall empty afterwards... Wow."
